Across the education programme, Expo floor and conversations taking place throughout the Show, several themes emerged that will continue to shape dealership strategy well beyond 2026.
Artificial intelligence was everywhere at NADA Show 2026 – but the conversation had noticeably changed.
The question is no longer simply whether dealerships will use AI.
The more important questions are where it creates genuine value, how it integrates with existing operations and how dealers distinguish useful technology from technology looking for a problem to solve.
From lead management and customer communication to service bookings, marketing and operational efficiency, AI is rapidly becoming part of the dealership technology stack.
For dealers, that makes understanding the technology increasingly important – not because every new tool deserves adoption, but precisely because it doesn’t.
Walking an Expo floor filled with new platforms, systems and emerging technology reinforces another lesson: innovation matters only when it improves the business.
The strongest conversations increasingly start with dealership outcomes.
Can it improve conversion?
Can it increase retention?
Can it reduce friction for customers?
Can it make employees more productive?
Can it improve profitability?
The sheer scale of NADA provides a rare opportunity to compare competing ideas and solutions side by side – and to talk directly with the people developing them.
For all the discussion about technology, many of the biggest opportunities remain remarkably familiar.
Leadership.
People.
Customer experience.
Used vehicles.
Fixed operations.
Process.
Profitability.
Technology may change how dealerships address those fundamentals, but it doesn’t eliminate them.
If anything, a faster-moving market makes disciplined dealership operations even more important.
NADA Show’s formal education programme is only part of the learning experience.
Some of the most useful insights come from talking with dealers operating in different markets, comparing approaches and discovering that a problem you thought was unique to your business is being tackled in entirely different ways elsewhere.
That exchange becomes particularly valuable for Australian delegates travelling together.
A US strategy may not translate directly to Australia – nor should it.
The opportunity lies in asking a better question:
What can we learn from it?
Perhaps the greatest lesson from NADA Show 2026 was the importance of occasionally stepping away from your own market.
When you spend every day inside a business, incremental change can feel enormous.
When you step outside it and look at where the wider industry is heading, the horizon changes.
NADA Show offers that perspective at scale.
And in February 2027, the global automotive retail industry will come together again – this time in Orlando.
The questions will have evolved.
The technology will have moved again.
New challenges will have emerged.
And that is precisely why returning matters.
